Colour Blocking French

THE MODERN NAIL TREND THAT'S PLAYFUL YET POLISHED

Ready to break away from minimal neutrals? The Colour Blocking French look is bold, stylish, and easier to create than it looks. By mixing different shades on each nail — and topping them off with contrasting French tips — you get a fresh, graphic twist on a classic style. It’s fun, expressive, and totally customisable to match your vibe.

What Is the Colour Blocking French Manicure?

This look plays with solid colour blocks across the nail, using a mix of complementary or unexpected shades, then finishing each nail with a sharp, contrasting French tip. Think soft nude bases with pops of pastel, or bold primaries with crisp white edges. There are no rules — just colour, contrast, and creativity.
The best part? It’s completely adaptable. Whether you love muted tones or bright statement colours, this design lets you build your own palette. And thanks to PN Selfcare’s professional tools and long-lasting gel formulas, you can achieve this look easily at home, even if you're new to nail art.
From short natural nails to sculpted shapes, the colour blocking French works on every length and gives your manicure a fresh, fashion-forward edge.

How to: Colour Blocking French

Step 1: Nail prep
Start by shaping your nails with the PN Selfcare Fine Nail File. Then gently push back your cuticles using the PN Selfcare Cuticle Pusher. Prepping your nails properly helps your gel polish apply smoothly and last longer.

Step 2: Cleanse the nail surface
Use PN Selfcare Cleansing to remove any oils, dust or leftover product. A clean surface is essential for proper adhesion.

Step 3: Apply your base coat
Choose your base:

  • Peelable Base: Apply a thin layer of PN Selfcare Peelable Base to each nail and let it air dry for 30 seconds. No lamp needed.
  • Soak Off Base: Apply a thin layer of PN Selfcare Soak Off Base and cure under the PN Selfcare LED Lamp for 30 seconds.

Step 4: Apply the base colours
Time to start colour blocking. Choose 3–4 gel shades — for example, Toasted TeddyBanana Cream, and Snooze Blue.

Paint each nail with a different colour to create a playful mix. For example:

  • Thumb & ring finger – Toasted Teddy
  • Index & pinky – Banana Cream
  • Middle finger – Snooze Blue

Apply two thin coats of each colour, curing each layer under the LED lamp for 30 seconds.

Step 5: Create the French tips
Now for the fun part — the tips. Use your chosen colours to paint the edges of each nail. With the PN Selfcare Nail Art Brush, carefully define each tip, following the natural curve of your nail.

Work in thin layers and cure each one to avoid smudging. You can switch up the tip colours to contrast or match the base shades for a custom look.

Step 6: Seal the design
Apply a layer of PN Selfcare Glossy Top Coat to lock in the design and add shine. Cure under the LED lamp.

Step 7: Finishing touch
Finish your mani by massaging a drop of PN Selfcare Cuticle Oil into your cuticles to hydrate and give your nails that healthy, polished look.
